ABOUT US
Dream it. Then do it.
At Raisin’Sail that’s what we are all about. If you don’t chase your dreams who will?
Life has a way of just happening. The day to day responsibilities of caring for and providing for your family become the center of life early and often people wake up in their retirement years and realize they lived to work and not worked to live.
Vacations, adventures and explorations are few and far between. And dreams of a simpler life fade with expanding responsibility.
Believe me. I know this life all too well. We lived this life for many years with great purpose. I mean you only know what you know. Right? Dreams are just that...dreams. Something you think about occasionally. Maybe while you’re on vacation and have some mental capacity
A few years ago we planned a trip to St John USVI to celebrate my 50th Birthday. I had been there once before for a day trip and loved the island. I had wanted to go back for an extended trip. There was just something about the quiet, small island that resonated peace in my soul. So we went...for 12 days. We explored many of the island’s pristine beaches and national forest. We chartered several boat trips to the surrounding BVI’s. We immersed ourselves in the island lifestyle. And literally fell in love with Love City.
As we sat on the porch of our Airbnb one night after a long day on the water, the inception of our dream began.
We both love the water. It has always had a certain allure for both of us. We feel ‘at peace’ around water. And the beautiful blue Caribbean Sea in the VI’s felt more like home than any other place we’d both been. For Wade, he was a power boat guy and had spent a lot of his time on the water at the lake. But has great memories of family beach vacations growing up. For me I’ve always loved the beach and spent a lot of time sailing during my early adult years living in Charleston, SC.
The original idea of our dream was to eventually move to St John permanently and buy a house. But during our next trip to St John we spent two weeks immersed in the island culture and began to make friends. We got married on that trip at Annaburg Ruins with the Caribbean Sea as the back drop. It was absolutely perfect. After the wedding Wade had chartered a 38 foot catamaran for us. We spent our honeymoon night and the whole next day on this boat. This was when Wade fell in love with sailing. Like I said, you don’t know what you don’t know until you do.
When we got back to our Airbnb that night we sat on the porch and the evolution of our dream began. When we left at the end of that two weeks we were certain that we would one day come back to stay. And we would charter a sailboat in the hopes of giving others the incredible experience that we had.
That was 18 months ago. And here we are. Starting to make our dream a reality. Starting the beach bag and towel company evolved from our original dream. I mean EVERYONE needs the perfect beach bag on a boating excursion. And the perfect lightweight beach towel that doesn’t collect sand! Right?? And that was something we could do NOW and build a brand that could warehouse our boat business in the future.
